MIC CHECK - Virtual Interview Preparation for SNMA and LMSA

“Mic Check” Interview preparation for SNMA and LMSA class of 2021  was a virtual event sponsored by the Twin City Medical Society and Wake Forest University School of Medicine SNMA,  which took place on Saturday November 14, 2020.  The event comprised of tips on how applicants can look their best on video conferencing platforms, breakout sessions involving mock interviews with integrated feedback, and recommendations of follow up and residency program information management..

Twin City Medical Society/Student National Medical Associaton Mentor/Mentee Mixer  was a COVID-19 sensitive outdoor mixer which allowed SNMA members to meet members of the Twin City Medical Society who will serve as mentors to provide guidance and support for students as they progress through medical school.  

Juneteenth 2020

June 19th, 1865 marks the date that Union Soldiers, landed at Galveston, Texas with news the Civil War had ended and that the enslaved were now free.  The Twin City Medical Society was proud to participate in this year’s virtual Juneteenth Festival.  Drs. Elijah Beaty, Mary Branch, and Rashad Sullivan discussed COVID-19 and the impact on the African-American Community in Forsyth County.  They also discussed ways to limit the spread of COVID-19.

WFBH GME Wide Diversity Weekend

The Wake Forest School of Medicine is committed to diversity in its admissions process. Diversity as a core value embodies inclusiveness, mutual respect and multiple perspectives and serves as a catalyst for change resulting in health equity. TCMS members Dr. Amber Brooks and Dr. Nancy Denizard-Thompson served as co-chairs of this year’s diversity weekend. In 2018-19, in alignment with Dr. Julie Freischlag’s Year of Inclusion, the Department of Anesthesiology spearheaded its first ever Diversity Weekend for underrepresented minority resident applicants.

Juneteenth 2019

June 19th, 1865 marks the date that Union Soldiers, landed at Galveston, Texas with news the Civil War had ended and that the enslaved were now free. This served as a two and a half year delay after President Lincoln’s initial reading of the Emancipation Proclamation. From this date the celebration of Juneteenth was born. Whereas it was initially celebrating the end of slavery, Juneteenth now serves as a celebration of African American freedom and achievement, continuous self-development, and respect for all cultures.

Kennedy Hopkins Scholarship Dinner

The Kennedy Hopkins Scholars Mentor Program, named for Dr. Charlie Kennedy and Dr. Larry Hopkins, was founded in 2018 at Wake Forest Baptist Health by Dr. Artina Dawkins as a mechanism of professional and personal support, empowerment and inclusion of our underrepresented minority residents and fellows. Through the program, residents and fellows are able to self-select a faculty mentor at Wake Forest Baptist Health, attend a quarterly lecture series, and participate in community engagement events.
