TCMS/SNMA Mentor/Mentee Mixer

In 2013, Dr. Edward Abraham, then Dean of Wake Forest School of Medicine approached Dr. Vernon Ross, with a request.  The students of the Wake Forest School of Medicine chapter of SNMA, a largely African-American organization desired more support and mentorship to be successful during their matriculation through medical school.  From this interaction was born the TCMS/SNMA Mentor/Mentee program.  This program paired members of Twin City Medical Society with members of SNMA to provide mentorship and guidance during medical school and beyond.  Over the years, the bond between TCMS and SNMA has only grown stronger.  Each year, we hold a mixer so students may meet their assigned mentors as well as meet other African-American Physicians, Dentists, Pharmacists, and PAs within the Winston-Salem area.

On September 28th, 2021 members of TCMS and SNMA were able to meet on the patio of Forsyth Country Club to learn about efforts of Twin City Medical Society to enhance the experience of BIPOC SNMA members during medical school.  We discussed the multifaceted approach to mentoring undergraduates, medical students, residents and fellows.
